Long walks. Short walks. Dog walks. Bluebell walks. Walks in the rain. Walks in
the snow. Early morning walks. Walking off lunch. Walking briskly home as the
light fades gently. Easy walks. Rambling walks. Walks with friends. Solitary walks.
Walks with a purpose. Walks for conversation. Walks for meditation. Or just
walking for walking’s sake.

Harewood has all these walks and more: seventeen miles of rights of way across
fields and through woods, vistas opening up and then disappearing again as you
cross North to South, East to West, on the Ebor or the Leeds Country Way.
Harewood House and the landscape ‘Capability’ Brown and Humphrey Repton
created to enhance it are newcomers here; this is land where people thrived
for many hundreds of years before Henry Lascelles bought the Harewood and
Gawthorpe Estates in the early 18th century and his son Edwin built the House
and the landscape it sits in – the Harewood you see today.
