These limited edition prints are unique to Harewood House, and have been hand printed at Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print.
The Centre's expert team created the distinctive inked backgrounds using some of the colours most loved and used by J. M. W. Turner. Each is subtly different, making every print one of a kind.
The text was set by hand using movable type, and printed on one of the Centre's extensive collection of traditional printing presses.
They imagine a conversation between Austen and Turner, using quotations from both the writer and the artist to reflect on the relationship between writing and visual art, and the possibilities and constraints of British society in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
