Lucy + Jorge Orta’s collaborative visual arts practice employs a diversity of media including drawing, sculpture and performance to realize major bodies of work that address key social and ecological challenges. Amongst their most emblematic bodies of work are: Refuge Wear and Body Architecture, portable minimum habitats bridging architecture and dress; Nexus Architecture investigates alternative models of the social link; HortiRecycling and 70 x 7 The Meal question the local and global food chain and rituals of community feasting.

Lucy + Jorge Orta’s ‘70 x 7: The Meal, Act XLV’. Presented at Harewood House on 8 July 2023,  this large-scale public artwork convened people from communities across Leeds for a shared meal prepared by catering students from Leeds City College.

Harewood’s event was the 45th staging of the work which has taken place across many cities across the world. It belongs to a series of works conceived as a space of sharing, conversation and celebration. The meal at Harewood included growers, urban farms, environmentalists, nutritionists, and social justice campaigners and many more. From the cultural significance of food, to issues of biodiversity and the security of food supply chains, ‘The Meal’ brought people together to discuss and enact positive change.
